“Yahoo Go! for TV”, “Windows Live for TV” and {Google TV}

March 31st, 2007

Now a days these big giants are focussing on TV market as well. Yahoo and Microsoft have already relased the beta version of “Yahoo! Go for TV” and “Windows Live for TV”. Microsoft’s beta version is on invitation basis. Rumours are milling around on the internet that Google is also working on it. Few of them are saying that it is already there in the market and Google is sending invitation to the GMail users on random basis, but Google hasn’t confirmed anything yet.

A heavily produced YouTube video from Mark Erickson at “Infinite Solutions” shows users how to get in on the super-secret (and non existent) Google TV beta. It involves sending yourself an email and then logging in and out of Gmail multiple times until a tv icon appears in the Gmail logo. In the comments to the video, some users have tried logging in and out of Gmail hundreds of times without it working.

You can see in these clippings that it is available on http://tv.google.com, but it doesn’t look like a valid subdomain. The ping tv.google.com return 100% loss. I have also checked the subdomain on some nslookup websites but it doesn’t return anything.

The guy in third clipping is saying that “he has copied all the links into the settings page”. Does he mean that Google has modified his hosts file and added a entry of tv.google.com to some secret IP Address.
