Angry Birds coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii

November 24th, 2010

The makers of the smartphone megahit, one of the most successful mobile games in history – Angry Birds have revealed that they are bringing the game to consoles, with versions for the Wii, Xbox 360 and the PS3 – as well as a sequel in Angry Birds 2.

The chief executive of Rovio, the company behind the game, Peter Vesterbacka , told the BBC that the company is also working on plans for Angry Birds 2, a sequel to the original game. But he said that rather than replicating the gameplay of the original – in which you fire a variety of birds with special abilities at pigs in and effort to destroy them – Angry Birds 2 would be a different type of game. Which means that you will see a lot more of the pigs. The pigs will be a lot more active than just being slingshotted at by birds.

Angry Birds has consistently topped app charts around the world since its initial release last December, and was downloaded over 2million times in a matter of days when it made its Android debut in October. Rovio have previously been in discussions about extending the franchise to a series of comics, TV shows and even an Angry Birds movie potentially on the cards. A range of Angry Birds toys was also recently released.

Angry Birds movie being planned

Angry Birds’ storyline involves a number of disgruntled avians attempting to retrieve their eggs – which have been stolen by some hungry pigs – by blowing the pigs up. Rovio have already dabbled in the world of animated Angry Birds, with a cinema-style trailer being viewed over five and half million times on YouTube.
