December 20th, 2007

Lakshmi Mittal, the richest man of United Kingdom, has bought up a 20% stake in QPR (Queen’s Park Ranger)  Football Club. The club did not disclose the sum paid for the stake.

Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal,  will join Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone and Renault team boss Flavio Briatore on the club’s board.

QPR is located just 5.6 kilometers (3.5 miles) from Chelsea in West London. It would be very interesting to see how QPR progress to compete Chelsea, as now they have got Mittal’s backing.

Statement of QPR Board

This investment in QPR by the Mittal family is a great stepping stone towards the future development of the club and supports the ambition of the current shareholders to reach the Premier League in the near future.
