Laxmi Mittal eyes an English Football Club (Birmingham City)

After the successful take over of French steel company Arcelor, Laxmi Mittal, is eyeing another grand acquisition. This time it is in the field of sport (English Football). The indian born billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, who is twice as rich as Roman Abramovich – has emerged as a contender to buy Barclays Premiership club Birmingham City FC, The Daily Telegraph reported on Wednesday

The steel magnate, who is worth £19.25 billion, has made an inquiry about the possibility of taking over the Midlands club from David Sullivan and David and Ralph Gold. The newspaper said, Mittal is yet to follow up on his preliminary inquiry.

Besides Mittal, a London-based NRI, another unnamed business magnate from the Far East is also said to be interested in the club and likely to make a formal bid later this week.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are the other English Premiership clubs that have been bought over by business tycoons in recent years.
