We all are waiting for Dabboo Ratnani’s annual ritual, the unveiling of his calendar which is finally going to happen tomorrow 7th January. This is the Bollywood photographer’s 12th year of capturing tinsel town for his trademark almanac.
Dabboo is also awarded as the Most Influential photographer of the year 2010 by Asian Photography.
Though Dabboo interacts with the stars for their shoots for mags, films and portfolios throughout the year, they specially remove time for his date diary. The shoot provides the stars a platform to experiment with their looks and styling.
He begins works months in advance and though there are many takers, he is not tempted to sell the calendar his work is only for private circulation especially among B-Town folk.
First timer: Each year, Dabboo makes it a point to include a new face. This time it is Sonakshi Sinha to grace the pages of the 2011 calendar.
After going semi-nude for Maxim, Bipasha has done it again for Dabboo Ratnani’s 2011 calendar , December month. This is the eighth time in a row that Bipasha Basu is featured in Ratnani’s calendar.
For the calendar she has gone completely nude, with just a bed sheet covering only her booty.
Even Vidya Balan has gone topless for the calendar. She is naked for April 2011 month.
Dabboo talks about his stars and starry calendar:
“There is no particular theme for the calendar like last year which was entirely in black and white. There is a flavour of Mumbai to it and the snapshots are full of life. There are hard-core bodies as well as sexy images. Each picture tells its own story and has its own theme. This time I have kept it freestyle with lots of colour, unusual outdoor locations, natural light and high fashionâ€.
Priyanka Chopra: She’s lounging on the poolside on a deckchair but in a non-conventional manner. It’s all about her body language and attitude. There is a sensual feel to it as her curves are accentuated and it is overtly sexy but at the same time there is that laidback attitude that sets the mood of the picture.
Hrithik Roshan: This is how we like to see Hrithik all pumped up. He is extremely focused and dedicated even during the shoot he kept on pumping himself up! It’s his body art.
Kajol: I didn’t want her to look in any way we have seen her before. She normally sticks to casual wear and saris, but here she has turned out in a gown. The idea was to style her differently and show that she is equally in ease in jeans and top as well as in a black gown that has been designed by Manish Malhotra. Even her make-up done by Mickey Contractor, especially the eyes is distinct.
Amitabh Bachchan: The snapshot is all about contrasts. It has been taken on at a rustic roadside barber shop. But Big B is in full formal gear in his pinstriped suit with an iPad waiting for the barber to arrive.
