Mexican business magnate Carlos Slim Helu has overtaken Microsoft founder Bill Gates as the world’s richest man, a Mexican financial journalist who has been tracking the mogul’s wealth said today. Recent gains in his shares of the America Movil group are largely responsible for his recent increase of wealth, boosting his fortune to an estimated $67.8 billion compared with $59.2 billion for the Microsoft mogul
Forbes magazine’s list of The World’s Billionaires has always ranked Bill Gates as the richest person in the world since 1995. First time, In the 12 years there will be a change in the top position.
Forbes magazine reported on its Web site in April that Carlos Slim Helu had moved past U.S. investor Warren Buffett to become the world’s second-richest man, with a fortune estimated at just over $53 billion (euro39 billion).
The Mexican Finance Website Sentido Comun says,
Thanks to a 26.5 per cent rise in the shares of America Movil during the second quarter, Slim, who controls a 33 per cent interest in Latin America’s largest mobile phone company, is substantially richer than Gates. The difference between their two fortunes is around nine billion dollars in favor of Slim.

His wealth is in marked contrast to the 53% of Mexico’s population that the World Bank says are living in poverty.
