Salman Khan, Apna Sallu! I fell for him when I saw him in “Maine pyar kiya†for the first time. Since then I’ve had a Love and Hate kind of relationship with him. Love grew for him when I saw him in “Baggiâ€, Wao! What a skinny macho lover he was. Pradeep hates him, but I don’t care. I Loved everything about him, if I am not wrong, he is the first actor of the bollywood who set the trend of bare and waxed chest. 42, he was and still is every girls dream man…..Mr Right!
He was fantastic and so real on “Kaun Banega Crorepati†with his girlfriend Katrina Kaif.
The Khan has made it to the headlines for roughing up media people, his purported underworld links, getting aggressive with his actress girlfriends — ranging from Somy Ali to Aishwarya Rai – being involved in an alleged hit-and-run case. And he has been found guilty of poaching.
With his second film, Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyaar Kiya‘s super success, Salman Khan shot to number one overnight. With Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Aapke Hai Koun…! and Rakesh Roshan’s Karan Arjun, he was well and truly a superstar.
Yet, the actor is better known for his scandals and controversies.
In 2005, newspapers published transcripts of his purported telephone conversations with Aishwarya, in which he allegedly bragged about his underworld links. The authenticity of the tapes has not been established.
In the early hours of September 28, 2002, Salman allegedly drove over four pavement dwellers, killing one, in a drunken haze. The actor was subsequently released on bail.
And on February 17, 2006, he was sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of Rs 5,000 for killing two blackbucks in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, in 1998.
I reckon all these ups and downs in life have made him a responsible and grown up man. The actor has been called everything from a spoilt brat, hot-tempered, brash and badly behaved man. But today if you ask him, Sallu confesses that despite the many letdowns in his professional life and personal, he has no complains at all. “It’s been a very satisfying journey till date. I have so much to thank God for.”
The unpredictable Khan seems to have mellowed down considerably and doesn’t sound particularly ruffled even when personal questions are levelled at him.
He has gone out of his ways to help his friend Govinda to make a come back in the industry. He had helped so many people under-table that we don’t know about.
Quiz him about the newly formed Salman Khan Foundation, a non-profit organisation, and his philanthropy, and the actor says, “One of the reasons I started the charity foundation for the underprivileged was to give back what I have received in abundance – so much love, adulation and fame.
It’s time I did something for these children. I can’t keep begging people for money. So I have decided to take up painting to raise money. I would also do shows and TV appearances for charity.”
How does he cope with controversies, given every action of his is always under public scrutiny? The 42 year old superstar seems to have learnt to ignore it.
“I strongly believe that by writing lies, journalists draw salaries with which they feed their children and take care of their parents. If that is okay with them then it’s okay with me. It’s like charity for me.”
And what about marriage, now that most of his contemporaries seems to have settled down? The answer is fairly diplomatic: “According to news channels I have been married 10 times already. When I am ready people will know about it.”
Now that you have grown up and have started behaving well. Marry soon, I am sure all your fans want to see little spoilt brat baby Salman.
