Slumdog Millionaire fame Freida Pinto has landed a role as the new Bond girl. According to UK tabloid “The Mirrorâ€, Freida Pinto is set to sign the deal worth £3 million, to feature alongside Daniel Craig in the 23rd instalment of 007 series, which will be directed by Sam Mendes.
The new Bond movie, due to begin production later this summer, will be shot in Buckinghamshire’s Pinewood studios and on location in the Afghan capital Kabul. Previous Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are set to write the screenplay, along with screenwriter Peter Morgan. Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are producing the film.
The film is fast tracked for a 2011 release, reports the New York Post.
Freida continues to hobnob with biggies in Hollywood. She is all set to work with Oscar- nominated actor Mickey Rourke in the action epic, “Dawn Of Warâ€. Rourke has been cast as King Hyperion. Freida plays Phaedra, the Greek priestess who helps prevent a cataclysmic war. Tarsem Singh will direct the flick.
She has also appeared on almost every chat show from The Oprah Winfrey show and The Tyra Banks show to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Show with David Letterman.
For Freida, 2010 promises to be big in Hollywood. Woody Allen’s “You Will Meet A Tall Dark Strangerâ€, co- starring Josh Brolin and Naomi Watts is scheduled for a September release. She is rumoured to have got Rs 15 crore for her role in Allen’s film. She also plays the title role in Julian Schnabel’s Miral.
The project has been in the pipeline for months and Freida was always the dream Bond girl, but initially she was nervous about accepting it. The model turned actress felt she is too young to be a Bond girl.
She has said: ‘There’s not much of a role, though some of them have become iconic. And you need somebody mature and prettier than me.’ She feels that the talk of her being a Bond girl is flattering.
Actress Freida Pinto has denied that she was approached by director Sam Mendes to play the lead in his next bond movie opposite Daniel Craig.
Freida’s official spokesperson in a statement said:
"I would like to confirm that as of today, Freida Pinto has not been approached to be part of the next Bond film. It is of course very flattering to even be rumoured to be part of a Bond film but she has certainly not been approached for the role of the next Bond girl opposite Daniel Craig as yet.â€
