Yes it’s a joke, how we Indians portray ourselves in modern world with a very open minded attitude. Where we appreciate a women talking about Aids (Shilpa Shetty) in a huge gathering of truck drivers, and on other hand we try to pull her down and insult her by calling her an uncultured Indian, whereas its not her fault if she was kissed (on cheeks) by Richard Gere. Is she not already embarrassed enough by that kiss? We really are a bunch of hypocrites.
Shilpa Shetty shed tears after being stopped at Mumbai Airport by immigration officials who had no record of a Supreme Court ruling which overturned a ban on her leaving the country. They said she was still wanted for obscenity charges over the kiss.
Her spokesman, Dale Bhagwagar, said: “She called me in the middle of the night and was in tears.”
Shetty said: “I can understand something like this if I’d committed a criminal offence. But what was my offence, when I’m just an actor, going to perform a musical on foreign land.”
She was on her way to the opening of the Miss Bollywood musical in Berlin. Shilpa Shetty was only allowed to join the dance troupe performing with her after prolonged questioning.
Story mein twist:
Ms Shetty’s UK agent backtracked on the reports.
She said: “There was no detention and no arrest. Shilpa normally has to show paperwork every time she passes through immigration. The papers were embedded in the bottom of her handbag and she could not find them. She was taken aside for ten minutes only.”
After the Kissing incident, a regional court in India issued an arrest warrant against Gere, but its ruling was overturned by the Supreme Court.
